Val Roseg
The hike from Pontresina through the Val Roseg leads through park-like landscapes. Larch forests dominate the scene in the Val Roseg. On the left and right are the 3000m peaks of the Upper Engadin. Reducing the scenic beauty of the Upper Engadine to the Silser, the Silvaplaner, the Champfèr and the St. Moritzsee would not do justice to the surrounding valleys. The actual gems are namely in the small side valleys. The romantic Val Fex, the wild Morteratschtal or even the picturesque Val Roseg are the best examples. Atelier Segantini
In August 1894, the Segantini family settled in Maloja and moved to the "Chalet Kuoni", built by the engineer of the Gotthard railway company Alexander Kuoni of Chur. Here he felt at home: the last creative years of the artist Giovanni Segantini were spent in the Engadine, as the fantastic light enchanted him. Born in 1858 in Arco (Trento), he had lost both his mother and father as a child, he was raised by his half-sister in Milan, where he began to paint despite his young age. Five years later Giovanni Segantini died in the homonymous hut on the Munt da Bes-Cha (Mountain Sheep), above Pontresina, at the young age of 41 years.The Segantini studio was first built in Soglio in 1897 as a model for the great Engadine Alpine panorama that Giovanni Segantini planned for the Paris World's Exibition in 1900. Giovanni Segantini is regarded as the great reviver of Alpine painting and an important representative of Symbolism at the end of the 19th century.
